About bull breeds

A Bull (or Bully) Breeds are descendants from Molosser Breed which originated in Greece. They were crossed with other breeds to create dogs who would protect livestock and guard property. However later they were bred for blood sports like bull baiting (hence the name bull breed).

Bull Breed type is particularly ambiguous as it encompasses a range of breeds, pure bred and cross breeds of:

  • American Pit Bull Terrier
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier
  • American Staffordshire Terrier
  • English Bull Terrier
  • American Bulldog
  • English Bulldog
  • Boston Terrier
  • Bull Mastiff
  • Cane Corso Italiano
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog
  • French Bulldog
  • Boxer
  • American Bully
  • And many more

Bull Breeds tend to do everything full throttle: play, work and love! They are extremely courageous, obedient and affectionate with a sense of humour. Bull Breeds love people and are wonderful family members and companions. They are intelligent and stubborn at times but this is the appeal of this ‘human’ in doggy fur! They need firm and consistent training and they tend to excell at everything!

A Bull Breed might be right for you if:

A) Your garden is secure and enclosed

B) You are willing to invest the necessary time and effort to care for their emotional and physical needs

C) You are willing to be a responsible owner and act as an ambassador for the breed, this will include talking to strangers who do not understand the breed AND also having to put up with (!) Bull Breed fans who will be desperate to meet your dog 🙂

Here’s a video about Cooper, a working Staffie, who was rescued – here he shows all those great traits of perseverance, energy and love of play.
